Birding at Greater Rann of Kutch – Passage Migrants – September 2019

Introduction

The Great Rann of Kutch – one of the top birding sites in India is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat. With the Little Rann of Kutch and the Banni grasslands on its southern edge, it is situated in the district of Kutch spanning around 30,000 square kilometers between the Gulf of Kutch and the mouth of the Indus River.

Along with over 200 species of resident birds, the Great Rann of Kutch is an important stopover for migratory birds which makes it one of the top birding sites in India. Some of key species seen here are Marshall’s Iora, Grey Hypocolius, Spotted flycatcher, Rufous-tailed Scrub Robin, Shrikes, White-naped Tit, Stoliczka’s Bushchat, Sykes’s Nightjar, Tawny Eagle, Greater Spotted Eagle, Long-legged Buzzard, Laggar Falcon, White-bellied Minivet, Short-eared Owl, Indian Eagle Owl, Greater Hoopoe Lark, Merlin, MacQueen’s Bustards, Great Indian Bustards, Common Cranes, Chestnut-bellied & Painted Sandgrouse, Pelicans, and of-course the majestic Flamingos.

Join us in exploring these marshes, grasslands and semi-deserted areas buzzing with a variety of avian species, especially targeting the passage migrants along with the key resident species.

Itinerary

Day 1: Birding at tropical thorn forest. At possibility of as Spotted flycatcher, Rufous-tailed scrub Robin, Red-backed Shrike, Common Whitethroat and resident birds.

Day 2: Visit Banni Grassland. Possibility of as Spotted Flycatcher, European nightjar, Rufous-tailed scrub Robin, Red-backed Shrike, Red-tailed shrike, Common Whitethroat, Eurasian cuckoo, European Nightjar and resident birds.

Day 3: Visit Banni Grassland. Possibility of as Spotted Flycatcher, European nightjar, Rufous-tailed scrub Robin, Red-backed Shrike, Red-tailed shrike, Common Whitethroat, Eurasian cuckoo, European Nightjar and resident birds.

Day 4: Birding at tropical thorn forest. At possibility of as Spotted flycatcher, Rufous-tailed scrub Robin, Red-backed Shrike, Common Whitethroat and resident birds.

Amboli trip for Reptiles & Amphibians – July 2019

Introduction

Amboli is a hill station in south Maharashtra, India. Amboli lies in the Sahayadri Hills of Western India, one of the world’s “Eco Hot-Spots” and it therefore abounds in a variety of fairly unique flora and fauna.

Join us in July to explore this amazing place over 6 trails, including two super exciting “Night Trails” as we would be on lookout for some amazing flora & fauna Amboli offers. Some of the species we regularly come across Malabar Pit Viper, Green Vine Snake, Beddome’s Keelback, Shieldtails, Geckos, Malabar Gliding Frog, Amboli Bush Frog, Wrinkled Frog, the endemic Tiger Toad, Leaping Frog, Cricket Frogs and many more..!


Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Amboli by 12:00 PM. Amboli is located at around 120 Kms from Kolhapur and around 30Kms from Savantwadi. Check-in followed by lunch, introduction of members and some rest. Explore the campsite surrounding in evening followed by dinner (at around 8:00 PM). At 9:30 PM, proceed to our 1st night trail to Shirgaonkar point.

Day 2: Explore the campsite surrounding early morning. Have breakfast by 8:30 AM and proceed on a walking trail to Parikshit point. Back for lunch by 1:30 PM, followed by some rest. Explore the campsite surrounding in evening followed by dinner (at around 8:00 PM) and than proceed to our 2nd night trail at 9:30 PM to Mahadevgad.

Day 3: Explore the campsite surrounding early morning. Have breakfast by 8:30 AM and proceed on a walking trail to Parikshit point and return by 12:00 PM. Post lunch, check-out by 2:00 PM.

Pench Jungle Safari tour – May 2019

Introduction

Join us this summer in exploring these amazing forests of Pench. And yes, we do our safaris with only 4 persons in a gypsy for comfortable experience as well as better photographic opportunities.

Pench National park, nestling in the lower southern reaches of the satpuda hills is named after Pench river, meandering through the park from north to south. It is located on the southern boundary of Madhya Pradesh, bordering Maharashtra, in the districts of Seoni and Chhindwara.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Nagpur by 0930 hrs (09:30 AM). After breakfast, transfer to the forest resort in close vicinity of Pench National Park. Post lunch, we shall leave for our 1st jungle safari by 1430 hrs (2:30 PM). On returning back to resort, we shall have an interactive session over dinner followed by overnight stay at the forest resort.

Day 2: Leave early morning at around 0530 hrs (5:30 AM) for jungle safari with packed breakfast. Return back to the resort by 1100 hrs (11:00 AM) for some rest followed by lunch. Post lunch, leave for evening jungle safari by 1430 hrs (02:30 PM). On returning back to resort, we shall have an interactive session over dinner followed by overnight stay at the forest resort.

Day 3: Leave early morning at around 0530 hrs (5:30 AM) for jungle safari with packed breakfast. Return to resort by 1100 hrs (11:00 PM) followed by some relaxation. Post lunch, proceed to  Nagpur.

Birding in Uttarakhand (Makku, Chopta & Tunganath) – April 2019

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up by CAR from Dehradun airport by 12:30 PM and proceed towards Mukku Village. Approx driving time is 7 to 8 hrs. Reach Mukku Village around 8 PM in the evening.

Day 2: Visit Chopta monal points, Mukku Bend, Mukku Farm. Interactive session in evening followed by dinner.

Day 3: Visit Tunganath (Chopta – Tunganath trek) for some specific high-altitude species. The trek is approximately 3.5 KMs from the base. Interactive session in evening followed by dinner.

Day 4: Visit Kakraghat and bird-watching on the way. Interactive session in evening followed by dinner.

Day 5: Bird-watching in and around Mukku village. Interactive session in evening followed by dinner.

Day 6: Leave for Dehradun airport early in the morning by 3:30 AM.

Note: Wake up call at 5:30 in the morning everyday.
